First published in 1970, 84, Charing Cross Road brings together the letters exchanged between Helene Hanff, a “poor writer” living in New York City and Frank Doel, a used book dealer in London. The correspondence began in 1949 with a request for secondhand books, and over the course of twenty years evolved into a sweet and touching friendship based on a common love for literature.
