The life and death struggle of six women convicted of petty crimes in 19th-century London. For their crimes they are sentenced to be "transported" to a British penal colony in Australia. Set aboard a converted warship, the prisoners and crew must endure a grueling 6-month journey. Housed in a cramped cell below deck, the women gradually learn certain truths about society and themselves.
